I didn’t want to spend a lot getting started with quail.
So I built my setup for around $100 using simple materials.
And honestly, it works better than I expected.
🏗️ What I Used
- Wire mesh (bought in bulk)
- Basic frame
- Ground space for part of the enclosure
Nothing fancy.
🧠 What I Learned
At first I thought I needed something more “professional”.
But the quail don’t care.
They just need:
- Space
- Protection from weather
- Dry conditions
🌱 Ground vs Wire
One thing I noticed:
Wire floors caused foot issues.
Ground setups worked better overall.
If I had to do it again, I’d lean more toward ground setups from the start.
🧼 Keeping It Clean
I use wood pellets to absorb moisture.
That made a big difference in smell and cleanup.
⏱️ Daily Effort
My setup only takes about 5–15 minutes a day.
That’s probably the biggest benefit.
✅ Final Thoughts
You don’t need an expensive setup.
Start simple, adjust as you go, and focus on keeping things dry and comfortable.
